Independent information about dog bite laws, claims and legal help
Dog Bite Atlas is an independent U.S. information resource built to help people understand how dog bite laws differ by state, what practical steps may matter after an incident, how insurance can affect a claim and how to evaluate legal help.
Why Dog Bite Atlas exists
Dog bite information online is often fragmented. A person may find one page about a state statute, another about insurance, another about reporting an incident and dozens of law-firm pages focused mainly on obtaining a consultation. Our goal is to bring those questions together in one place without pretending that every state follows the same rule.
We focus on three things: explaining the law in plain English, showing where important rules come from and giving readers practical tools that help them organize the next steps.
What you can find here
State law guides
State-specific explanations of liability rules, deadlines, statutory sources, exceptions and related procedures.
Claims and insurance guides
Plain-English explanations of evidence, damages, homeowners and renters insurance, claim processes and settlement factors.
Practical tools
State-law finders, checklists and other utilities designed to help readers organize information without replacing legal advice.
How we research
We prioritize primary and authoritative sources such as state statutes, legislative websites, courts, state agencies, state bar resources and insurance regulators. Secondary sources may help us identify an issue, but important legal statements are checked against stronger sources whenever possible.
State-law pages are researched individually. We do not publish copy-and-swap pages where only the state or city name changes.
Our independence
Dog Bite Atlas is not a law firm and does not represent readers. Editorial content is separate from advertising and attorney listings. A lawyer or law firm cannot purchase a favorable legal conclusion, a higher editorial rating or a change to our explanation of the law.
Who writes the site
Content is researched and produced by the Dog Bite Atlas Editorial Team. Our editorial process, update standards and corrections process are public so readers can see how the site is maintained.
